We’ve pulled together some of the most frequently asked questions that we get about our Sensory Den.  Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if we can answer any questions that we may have missed.

What is the Sensory Den?

Our room is full of stimulating, sensory equipment and toys for you to explore with your child. There are lights at various speeds and different colours, projectors, optic fibres and bubble lamps and much more.

What happens in the Sensory Den Stay and Play Sessions?

Our sensory room is parent/carer led. It is a magical room that is set up for you and your child to enjoy. It’s a wonderful place for relaxing, bonding and meeting other parents, whilst helping your child with their sensory awareness and development.

I don’t know anyone, is it ok to come along?

Of course, you are really welcome!  Doug or Lexi will be there to welcome you and help you and your child to settle. 

What happens in the Sensory Den Pop-up Sessions?

Our sensory room is self-led, a magical room that is set up for you to enjoy. It’s a wonderful place for relaxing, exploring and de-stressing.

Do I need to pre-book a session?

Yes please, this ensures that we know to expect you and that there is a space for you as we monitor numbers to avoid over crowding.   Please visit our Pop-up Sensory Den page to find your closest pop-up session.

How do I book?

Please visit the Contact page to complete a form with your enquiry or to book onto any of our pop-up sessions or to enquire about party and sensory equipment hire.

How do I pay for sessions or equipment hire?

You can pay in advance for pop-up sessions or group stay and play sessions by PayPal (Go to PayPal.Me/thesensoryden and enter the amount), by bank transfer or Cash and Card payments are also accepted on the day.

I’ve already paid, but can’t attend. Is it possible to get a refund?

Due to hire charges, preparation and overheads, payment is non-refundable.  Transfers to a different date may be given with 7 days or more notice, subject to availability.

Can I take photos?

Yes, we want you to capture your messy play moments and would love you to share them with us! However please be mindful that not all parents want themselves or their child in photos.

Can I feed my little one during a session?

Unfortunately we need to ensure our equipment is kept clean and safe so we kindly ask that children and adults refrain from having any food or drink by the equipment.  For babies, of course, we are breast feeding and bottle feeding friendly.

Where are you based?

We don't have a physical building with a permanent sensory room yet, so we bring the specialist equipment to you in York and the surrounding areas. We are also running various sessions in the local community so check out our 'Pop-up Sensory Den' page for further information.

Do you have an age limit to access the sensory facilities?

We are a therapeutic sensory den for all ages and abilities, from birth, to children and adults with additional needs, mental health conditions and those with Dementia. Some of the groups we run are aimed at specific age groups (such as the stay and play sessions for pre=school children) so please check you are booking the correct session.

Do I need a referral to use your facilities?

No, you do not need a referral to access our sensory equipment in the community.

Do you have disability access?

It is very important to us that all our sessions are accessible to all.  We always choose venues that have full disability access. Currently all our sessions are held on the ground floor of the venues we use.

How clean is your equipment?

Very! We want to create beautiful and clean spaces for you to enjoy.  The equipment is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected when it is cleared away before storing.  We also clean the equipment in-between each use with antibacterial wipes, for example at the pop-up sessions.  Hand sanitiser is also provided.

Is your equipment safe?

Yes, all the equipment is PAT tested and the equipment have been independently assessed for quality, suitability, and safety.
